to Washington Dominik Kubalik Jakob Pelletier Conor Timmins FLA 2nd 2022
to Florida Jakub Vrana - 50% retained salary
FLA agrees.
After holding out all year trying to find the right deal for a winger upgrade, we found two at once. Vrana is a guy I've had my eye on since the off-season... not a lot of RFA-aged players with that SC around... though we pay a price for it here. Salary retention keeps it cap-neutral for us.
The package hurts a little to give up - I was ecstatic to get Kubalik at the dispersal draft, he provided a ton of offense for a $2M salary... but unfortunately after a good first year, he seems to need a change of scenery as he's been outperformed by Namestnikov and Sprong in less minutes. I think he's still an effective top-6 winger but he needs to play somewhere else right now. Some solid futures head to Washington here too, especially Pelletier, but like with trading Doan in the other deal, I think opportunities to break into our top-9 might be limited for the next couple of seasons and if there is an opportunity there, I think Krebs is the guy to take it.

The Caps agree to this trade.
When I took over the team, I was not planning on moving Vrana. But this was a package that I could not pass up, especially when going for a rebuild.
