To Nashville James Van Riemsdeik Ottawa 3rd 2024 Conditional:If Ottawa resigns Bergeron Nashville gets Ottawa 4th 2023
To Ottawa Patrice Bergeron with Nashville retaining 1.5 million of his salary this year Condition: If Ottawa cannot resign Patrice Bergeron or if Bergeron retires this year, Ottawa will get as compensation prospect Rafael Harvey-Pinard
Ottawa accepts the trade! We have been after Bergeron for a while now! Looking to solidify my 2nd line with one of the top centerman in the game! Plus he his having a stellar season this year, hoping his, experience and leadership will light it up in Ottawa. The salary retained and conditions are good enough for the chance to lose him. Thanks to Mat for the great back and forth talks!

Nashville agrees. This trade solidifies our retool and it’s sad to see berg go. But this team needs some change. And the change is right now. We welcome James with open arms and look forward to the future. Thanks for the long drawn out talks Mike.

This trade will be approved: however, Ottawa is in violation of draft pick trading rules. For 2024 picks, teams must have at least a 1st or 2nd round pick. Somehow, this was missed on Ottawa's trade with Buffalo in early December. Definitely my mistake for not catching it, but it's still on Ottawa to know these rules.
Ottawa will be fined $2.5 million for the violation, with the ability to earn $1.25 million back if they should acquire a 1st or 2nd round pick in 2024 by this season's trade deadline.
