to Florida Nikolaj Ehlers Victor Mete Jayce Hawryluk
to Chicago Jason Zucker Anton Lundell Sean Behrens 2022 WSH 1st
Florida agrees. It's a big price for what Ehlers is right now, but I'm also very confident in the player Ehlers is IRL and the NHL re-rate will be in play. We had been floating packages along the lines of Zucker + Lundell + 1st since before the draft, had some talks on a few guys, but weren't quite able to close anything. Those players were better than Ehlers is rated right now in this league, but I'm pretty sure if I NHL re-rate Ehlers after this upcoming season he's going to turn out better than them. Our young centre depth is pretty strong even without Lundell.
Although I liked Behrens, we have a ton of young defensemen coming onto the farm this year and Mete is both 1) probably ready a year or two sooner than the new guys and 2) going to make life a lot easier in developing our top D prospect Barron, also freeing up Timmins to provide a better partner for another one of the young guys, so while Behrens has more upside, I think Mete makes more sense for what we have in the system right now.
Hawryluk's just a depth add that will be either our 4C or 13th forward depending how things go in pre-season. Affordable 4th liner with physicality, a little bit of skill and if he works out, he's got a few years of team control left.

Hawks agree. Ehlers is not slotted to be in an ideal spot for development in our current roster and was unlikely to be who we chose for an NHL re-rate this coming off-season. Zucker is a downgrade but still very capable for the role and adding Lundell, Behrens and yet another 1st to our stockpile makes this worthwhile.
Thanks for the great talks, Trevor!!
